What does National
Governing Body mean? Simply, in order for Ju-Jitsu is to receive recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), then the IOC requires that International and National governing
organizations be established to standardize rules and other requirements. The Ju-Jitsu
International Federation
(JJIF) is the recognized International organization (The
World Governing Body for Ju-Jitsu), while the United States
Ju-Jitsu Federation is the National organization
(The National Governing Body for Ju-Jitsu) for the United Statesof
America
with the JJIF.
The JJIF is a full member of the
General Association of
International Sports Federations (GAISF), the
recognized International Federations of the
International Olympic Committee (IOC). The ancient art of
Ju-Jitsu is also a
World Games Sport
and is a member of the Olympic Family of Sports through the
IWGA and the GAISF. The JJIF conducts World Championships every two
years and world level competition in the World Games every four years. For
further information events and activities, visit the
JJIF Website at
http://www.jjif.org/.
Additionally, in October of 2000, an agreement between the International
Olympic Committee and the International World Games Association solidified the
cooperation between these two organizations. Since then, the WORLD GAMES have
been conducted under the Patronage and Support of the International Olympic
Committee (IOC). You can read this historic
agreement by clicking HERE.

Dividing the Work
Policies are principles, selected from available
alternatives, which provide a course of action. They are stated broadly enough to
encompass the full range of anticipated actions and narrowly enough to provide definite
guidance. They are guides to the National Directors / Board Members who set specific rules
and regulations to provide direction in the development of American Ju-Jitsu and the
USJJF.
THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE FUNCTIONS OF THE NATIONAL
DIRECTORS / BOARD MEMBERS AND THE REGIONAL LEADERS IS:
POLICY DETERMINATION POLICY DETERMINATION is the
responsibility of the NATIONAL DIRECTORS / BOARD MEMBERS as defined in the Bylaws of the
United States Ju-Jitsu Federation. This responsibility is derived from their legal status
and their relationship to both the martial arts community and the general public. Their
action establishes policy.
POLICY FORMULATION is the task of
"BOTH" the NATIONAL DIRECTORS / BOARD MEMBERS and the REGIONAL
LEADERS. In this they cooperate, each bringing their special insights, experience, and
skills to bear on the concerns or opportunities involved. is the task of
